It has been since I last bought yarn!

Snail's Pace

Who am I kidding?  There are all kinds of things distracting me from knitting this month!

This year's Halloween costume has just EATEN time.  Don't get me wrong- I have out-done myself on Halloween this year.  My kid has a COOL costume and I'm willing to admit it took a LOT out of me- but it's well worth it.  The results are nothing short of spectacular.  (Pics on Halloween- you gotta wait!)

I can't decide on what to do about my son's birthday party and the greater my indecision the LESS time I seem to have to plan it.  There's also other things going on that just haven't given me enough time to just sit down and knit.

That's not to say there isn't progress- it's just not at the rate that I would normally like to see.

MITTENS ARE DONE!

Untitled

Pattern: Newgrange Mittens by Kat Lewinski
Yarn: Lang Yarns Bebe in "Navy Blue" (discontinued) and Little Knits Sockulent "11" (red)
Needles: 1.5 mm
Notes: I probably could have gone up a half needle size and been slightly happier about the size.  These range on the skinny side, but I think they still work.  (Thank god for blocking!)

I am so relieved to have both teacher mittens done for school this year.  That was the "big one" to get out of the way and I'm greatful that it's no longer hanging over my head.  AND- the knitting on the "to do" list is quite "easy" from here on out... so at least there's that.  Simple knitting it always the way to go when there's other things distracting you from getting stuff done.

The socks have seen a little progress too- in fact it's nearing the toe on the first one!  Yay!

I also decided to break away from making progress on the socks to get the hat started.  I wonder if this mama might go early (I always say that... and the recipient of the last set is now over due... haha) so I need to get this litte project done.

Progress is slow, but steady around here.  Once I get on the other side of Halloween and birthday parties, I'll hopefully have 15 days or so of productivity before I panic about Christmas.  (EEEK CHRISTMAS!)

Having Too Much Fun... But Not Really Knitting

Yes, I know, it's been a while since my last post... but I have a really REALLY good excuse.

Why would I knit when I'm in 100 degree heat having the BEST! TIME! EVER! ?

The whole family (my brother in law, inlaws, my parents, my sister, US...) packed up and hit Disneyland and California Adventure Park for the Thanksgiving weekend and IT. WAS. AWESOME.  (And also so hot.  SO SO SO SO SO SO SO very very very very very HOT.)  One could barely even think of knitting after a long day in the park- and all I did was collapse into a nap/bedtime heap when we were back in the room.

I don't even regret not knitting.

Needless to say BEFORE we left was madness and afforded very little in the way of knitting time- but since we've been home I've had a chance to sneak in a row or two.

The mittens are close- now for thumbs.  (I HATE THUMBS...)

AND- the sock even got a few rows in on the plane down to Anaheim.  (I couldn't even formulate proper sentences I was so tired on the way back- so no knitting.)

The good news is that there isn't really anything to distract me now (ok maybe Halloween and a certain mister's 4 year old {!!!!!} birthday party), so I should be able to make it back on the progress train and get some things done here shortly.  The air is cool and crisp and I'm so ready to just sit down and knit for a long time!

A Little More Like It

We have managed to settle more into a fall routine around these parts and it means that knitting time is slowing making a comeback too.  I'm happy to report there is some progress on the projects!

I've got most of the cuff on a second mitten now and it means I'm well into these.  These must be off the needles and BLOCKED by the end of October (yay goals!)- and I think that will be a very reasonable little goal to achieve.

Also, seeing more progress, the sock is looking like an actual sock these days.  I'm telling myself that these will also need to be done by the end of October but blocking will be optional.

Untitled

Looks like a sock right?

That's it?

Well kind of.  It's progress and it's certainly better than what's been happening lately, but here is where I also confess that I haven't been 100% to faithful to knitting lately.  There are some days and nights now where I don't even *GASP* knit.

WHY?

I fell down the adult coloring rabbit hole and OH MAN, do I ever enjoy that to.

Adult coloring, for those who are wondering, is exactly what it sounds like- coloring pages for adults.  Smaller lines, more intricate details in order to add color to, usually done with pencil crayons.  I love looking at an overwhelming, slightly disordered colorless page and immediately coming up with color schemes and ways to color it in.  Now Parker and I color together, I in my book and he in his.  It's highly relaxing, the only downside is that it also means I choose what I'm going to do that night, and sometimes knitting doesn't win.

Not to worry, I have no plans in turning this into a "coloring blog" vs. knitting.  But if my progress is showing signs of slowing, it's likely because I'm distracted with coloring sometimes now too.  I've always been "bi-craftsual" and this one is looking like it's going to stick around for a bit right now.
